Gated research portion. Research/educational use with approved study plan (see www.esf.edu/aec for policies). Two public areas (Goodnow Mountain with fire tower and Rich Lake Beach/Boat Launch). State-owned Forest Preserve adjacent to HWF.

Arbutus Lake Watershed is gauged with a V-notch weir. Its catchment is monitored with an H-flume. Transects of piezometers, water table wells, soil tension lysimeters, snow lysimeters and throughfall collectors, have been installed for characterizing solute chemistry.
